Tips to ensure safe online shopping
I am writing this because I need a refresher course in how to shop online. I recently made some mistakes. I was in a hurry, and my credit card information was stolen. It's embarrassing when the bank calls, asking if I really want a paid subscription to a Web site of ill repute.
The bank closed the account and sent me a new credit card, no big deal. Or so I thought. I managed to forget about the monthly charges associated with the card. Enlightenment came when I received a call from my YMCA representative. She wanted to know why the charges were not going through. Oops.
Recently, I've been writing quite a bit about debit/credit card scams. So it seemed like a good idea to cover the risks of online shopping taobao english and share what I learned from my research and my real-world teaching moment.
1: Use a credit card provider that offers one-time credit card numbers
This is where I got sloppy. I normally use a credit card provider that offers one-time numbers. But I was in a hurry and didn't. What I gained at the moment was lost times 10 when I had to clean up my mess. Using my one-time credit card number would have removed any possibility of someone reusing the stolen information.
2: Make sure the Web site is valid and trustworthy
I recently wrote a piece on Blackhat SEO and how criminals are subverting real Web sites with malware or creating believable copies of real Web sites loaded with malware. I suggest using one or more of the site-rating Web-browser extensions. If the site is problematic, you will know.
Some of the better-known extensions are Web of Trust, LinkExtend, and McAfee SiteAdvisor. You also have the option to check questionable domains on the extension developer's Web site.
3: Check to see whether the Internet connection is secure
This may seem obvious, but people get lulled into complacency. I have to remind myself to double-check that a closed padlock is displayed, that https is used, and that the certificate is valid — ideally, an EV certificate. Each Web browser uses a slightly different approach, so make sure you understand how your browser advertises secure Internet connections.
4: Beware of deceptive or disguised offers
Last year, I wrote an article about coupon-click fraud and how people were unknowingly signing up for programs or offers they did not want. When you're filling out the information required to make an online purchase, carefully read what all the check boxes represent, regardless of whether they're selected. Opt-in and opt-out wording may be interchanged.
5: If actively shopping on the Internet, check often for unusual debit/credit card transactions
This tip is important. In almost all cases, discovering fraudulent charges early will lessen the impact of the problem. In fact, financial institutions usually absorb the charges if they're reported within a few days. So check often and know the liability limits used by your debit/credit card provider.
Extra tip: Call the order in if there is any doubt
Sounds simple enough, but many people don't think of it. If I have any concerns at all, I will call the order in. The company may still have problems, but you don't have to worry about its Web site being malicious or phishing for your financial information.

Looking for taobao agent?
Chinese Taobao is one of the world's largest e-commerce websites, a combination of eBay and Amazon, only bigger. With more than 800 million items listed, you can find almost anything offered for sale.
For the Shunyi expat community, it’s even more convenient because Ruan works at one of the International Schools, which makes paying in cash incredibly easy. Their ten percent fee is very reasonable, if you consider how much time you will save, and using a personal shopper takes the hassle out of the whole process. So maybe it’s time to give your bilingual friends a break, and enlist the help of an agent instead.
If you are unable to read Chinese, or do not have the time or patience to trawl through hundreds of pages of items, then it’s time you got a Taobao agent. Agents, or personal shoppers, will do your shopping for you. They do the searching, buy the items, and have them delivered either to their own warehouse, and then ship them out to you, or will arrange delivery direct to your home.
In need of a fancy dress outfit for a friend’s Birthday Party, I did an initial search on Taobao, so that I had a few links and pictures of what I wanted. I then emailed these links to TaobaoPlus10 personal shopper, Andrew Ruan, who helps simplifying the whole Taobao shopping experience for expats in China.
“As vendors from all over China put their stuff for sale on Taobao, we can find almost anything. My customers only need to send me an email of what they need (description, a web-link, a picture, a brand), then I will get back to them with the links for those items available,” explains Ruan.
Once you receive the list of matching products, simply select the item you want, send your personal shopper the payment (cash, PayPal or bank transfer), and they will order the product for you. Items will be delivered to your home, and if you need something urgently, they will pay the seller on your behalf, and then you reimburse TaobaoPlus10. If there are any problems with the order, they will help you resolve the issue. Ruan’s recent orders have included Huggies diapers, Crayola coloring pens and pencils, gluten free pizza base, and Vogmasks.

CHINA INSOLVENCIES TO INCREASE IN 2015
In an attempt to revive the Chinese economy, the People's Bank of China clipped interest rates for the sixth time since November as well as reduced its reserve-requirement ratio for banks. The country's benchmark lending and deposit rate was cut 25 basis points, while its reserve-requirement ratio for banks dropped 0.5 basis points.
Hong Kong And Taiwan Companies Will Need More Due Diligence Into Business Partners.
Amid the high profile interest payment default by a property developer, global ,expecially china trade credit insurer Euler Hermes warns of heightened insolvency risk and deteriorating payment terms in China. In 2015, Euler Hermes Economic Research expects the number of Chinese companies filing for bankruptcy to grow +5% (representing an estimate total of 2,760 cases) as liquidity tightens due to the crackdown on shadow banking, overcapacity in the real estate sector and greater fiscal discipline by local governments.
However, because of the complex and costly procedures involved, insolvency cases in Chinese courts are still relatively rare in absolute terms. Euler Hermes notes that an increasing number of Chinese companies lacking access to bank financing must look for alternatives, with a growing number choosing to delay payments to suppliers or asking for extended credit terms to their business partners.

Sense to Taobao agent?
Why does it make sense to Taobao through an agent?
What's the catch for using chinese taobao agent? A small service charge. Why should I? Here's what paying that tiny 4 – 7% gets you.
1. Finally, you can pay with patience
Taobao uses forwarders that only provide airfreight, while Taobao agents provide both airfreight and sea shipping. The difference between the two options? Duration. Of course, shipment via sea is the longer, albeit cheaper alternative. And for the typical Singaporean, the sweetest deal is the economical deal.
2. Assurance against obvious defects
Quality and authenticity checks are often not covered because, well, they can't be experts at everything that's being sold in Taobao to know what's real and they can't read your mind to know what you consider to be acceptable quality.
So what do agents mean by inspection of “obvious defects”? They mean discrepancies in quantity, color, size, design and any other obvious visual defects.
Imagine this. You order an M-sized top directly from Taobao, and it arrives nicely packed – in a Large! You sigh. Even if you decide that it's worth returning, you might eventually incur a higher cost for your item. An agent could check for these things and performs exchanges, returns and refunds while the item is still in China.
3. Downsizing and safeguarding shipping
Your item is shipped domestically within China from your selected merchant to the agent's operations team there. After conducting checks, agents proceed to repack your items. If they are excessively packaged, they would be downsized and you save on shipping. If they are poorly packaged and prone to damage, they would be properly repacked to safeguard against defects.
4. Sidestepping Taobao sellers
Taobao agents bridge the geographical gap by helping you communicate with multiple sellers on a single platform. Instead of speaking with multiple, Chinese- speaking Taobao sellers who might not be as concerned with your interests, you need only to interact with a singular support personnel.
That's a whole lot of convenience for $0.04 – $0.07 per dollar spent. Using an agent makes sense the same way buying travel insurance makes sense. You hope nothing goes wrong every time you buy that assurance, but the one time something happens, it'll be more than worth it. Additionally, when nothing goes wrong, you still enjoy the personalised service from your local agent.

The Scooter I Didn't Buy
I make no bones about the fact that I want a scooter. Scooters are just plain FUN to ride.
So I really thought I was going to buy one Saturday but it didn't happen. Very disappointing.
I would really like an electric scooter. They're quiet, they don't pump out poisonous gas, and the ongoing cost of operation is just about nil. So I was really pleased when I saw on craigslist an electric scooter for sale down in Castle Rock. The guy didn't list an asking price, saying simply that he wanted it out of his garage because he needed the space.
I contacted him and arranged to come down and check it out. I also asked what ballpark price he was looking for because, as I told him, if he didn't want to let it go for, say, less than $1,000 I would save both of us the trouble because I'm not looking to pay anything close to that. He was a bit cagey–a good negotiator–and did not cite a number but asked me what my range was. I said $400 to $800 and he said he might be willing to come down to $800.
OK, I wasn't excited how that played out but when I checked to see what these scoots–an EVT America R30–sold for new I saw that it was around $2,000. This one had only 500 miles on it so I figured that if I paid $800 for it that would still be a bargain, even if I could have paid even less.
I went down and checked it out and took it for a test ride. All in all it seemed like a decent little scoot, perhaps a bit inexpensively put together, but you do get what you pay for. But the test ride showed issues right from the start.
I pulled out of his driveway, which has a Hollywood curb. A Hollywood curb, in case you're unfamiliar with the term, is when instead of putting in a curb cut for your driveway, the entire curb is sloped so you have an bit of a bump going in or out. I went over the edge of this curb and hit the street hard. Whatever front shock this thing had was clearly trash. Fine, you can replace shock absorbers.
Taking off down the street the thing showed plenty of pep. I went zooming around and–as I keep saying–it was a heck of a lot of fun. But I did some esses back and forth and made some turns and the front end was raising some concerns. It didn't seem very stable and gave what I took to be warning of steering head issues. I had no idea what it might cost to do work on the steering head.
Back at his place, pulling back into the driveway over the Hollywood curb, it was another severe thunk of the sort that could easily send you flying if you were going very fast. I told him about the front shock and the steering. He held the front wheel steady while I pushed the handlebars left and right and there was a noticeable click and shift that they made while the wheel didn't move. No wonder the steering felt unstable.
I was torn. I clearly was not prepared to pay $800 for something with these problems, but you don't see many electric scooters for sale so I was asking myself if there was a price at which I would be willing to buy it even with these issues. And I told him plainly what was going on in my head. He acknowledged the issues and said he would be willing to take just $500.
Finally I concluded that no, I wouldn't be interested in this scoot at any price. I told him it wasn't the shock; shocks can be replaced. It was the steering. I thanked him and left.
I got home to find that he had called saying he found the problem with the steering, it was just a nut that was loose, would I like to reconsider? I was interested but figured before I answered him I would check out what it would cost to replace the front shocks. I had to do some searching but finally found a website focused on electric vehicles and a page for this particular scoot. Here I found something very interesting. In the listing of features it mentioned "rear shock absorbers" but not a word about front shocks. I also found an owner's manual and in the diagram where it points out the different features of the product it pointed to the rear shocks but not to the front end where something that seemed to be shocks were clearly visible.
My conclusion was that although there is something up front, some sort of piston, there apparently is only the weakest possible spring and it is perhaps not something that can be replaced.
So with no actual front suspension and no way to do anything about that, I was losing interest rapidly. Then the idea that a single nut was the only thing holding the steering in place didn't inspire confidence either. I sent him an email saying no thanks.
Very disappointing. I still want a scooter, and I'd especially like an electric one. But I guess I'm going to have to keep looking.

Selecting an Adult Kick Scooter for Sightseeing
Pick your kick scooter for sightseeing by taking into account your weight, height, and shoe size.
All scooters are rated for body weight. While you can usually stretch their specifications a bit, a 275 pound person should not scoot on a scooter rated for 220 pounds. The lower weight rating on scooters often indicates that they are better suited for short people.
Your height, not your weight, determines whether you can properly stand on a scooter. Ideally, a kicks scooter's fully extended handlebar should at least reach your waist. If, when you stand upright on its floorboard, you bend slightly to touch its handlebar, the kick scooter is too small. If you must "make do," you can usually have a longer handlebar/poll crafted at a bike shop, but the new length might alter some other feature that the kick scooter provides, then you need an electric scooter for adults.
While children often scoot on smooth asphalt playgrounds, sightseers cannot pre-select uniform scooting surfaces. More likely, you'll find yourself traveling from smooth to rough surfaces, such as those found in San Antonio's glorious Riverwalk. If your push scooter doesn't fit your body type, rough areas will be very uncomfortable, cause imbalance, and possibly be dangerous due to poor shock absorption that's stressed by your weight.
Scooting techniques: Take the time to learn your scooter's navigational behavior. Speed control, for example, is exceptionally important. Keep in mind that it is very easy to travel at speeds far faster than walking. Dragging your kick foot along the ground for speed control is not enough to suddenly stop it (especially when rolling downhill) without pitching forward.
I prefer an alternate-leg pushing technique because it equalizes the pressure on my hips and can greatly extend the time spent traveling. To execute this maneuver, however, the floorboard must be long enough to rest two feet. The picture below shows that I can execute the alternate-leg push on my beloved Original Kickboard (a 3-wheel scooter), but just barely when wearing size 9 woman's athletic shoes. Small feet on this kick scooter rule.
No matter which pushing technique you use, you need enough room on the floorboard to position a foot near the back fender brake without continuously resting it on the brake itself. Overall, when rolling (or "cruising") having the ability to place both feet on your scooter's foot-board makes sightseeing and the distances covered during it more pleasurable.
Carrying and packing a scooter: An adult kick scooter takes up less floor space than a bike, about the same space as a portable shopping cart, and less space than a baby stroller. This means that unfolded scooters can be pulled in areas used by carts, strollers, and bike-accessible areas.
When folded, my preference is to roll my kick scooter like a shopping cart. Not all scooters allow this, although adjustments can be made. No matter what, minimize your need to haul a folded scooter. After all, the object of this portable transportation device is to scoot. Click for a quality selection of adult kick scooters.

Renting a mobility electric scooter
Electric mobility scooters enable people whose mobility impairment cause it hard for them to carry out activities in their daily lives that they can't otherwise do—for example: getting from home to their mailbox, visiting their neighborhood shopping mall or shopping at a grocery store.
Electric scooters help these individuals living with asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), arthritis, severe osteoporosis, heart disease and angina pectoris among other conditions. As well, they can significantly aid in the mobility of elderly individuals. Severely obese people, whether young or elderly, can also find comfort and mobility by purchasing or renting an electric mobility scooter.
Scooters come in three-wheeled or four-wheeled configurations and are available for both outdoor and indoor use. Heavy duty scooters are ideal for heavier people and light weight, portable scooter models are easy to travel with and to fit in a car or van. Brand new scooter models usually run between $790 and $1000 in price, whereas deluxe models can be priced in the range of $3000-$5000. The costly nature of electric scooters means that some might difficult to afford them. For these individuals, renting electric scooters instead of choosing to purchase them, could be a convenient solution.
Scooters can be rented by the day or by the week and the cost per week is considerably lower than the cost of purchasing a scooter. In many cases, scooter rentals are partially or entirely covered by medical insurance. Some of the accessories that are available for use with electric scooters are cup holders, cane holders, scooter batteries and baskets to carry items like groceries or personal belongings.
Electric scooter manufacturers also offer add-ons like seat belts, flags and rear view mirrors to increase the safety of the user. Cover canopies can also be installed to protect he user from the rain or the sun. Individuals who want to transport their electric scooters on cars or vans might decide to adapt their vehicles to better fit them if necessary.
Beyond making electric scooters available to individuals, most mobility scooter dealers also offer additional equipment to facilitate the lives of the patient and caregiver. Patients can rent or buy lift chairs, manual wheelchairs, rollators and hospital beds among other products. While many mobility device suppliers can be found in the state of Florida, the staff at Mediplus Mobility hopes you will choose our company as a reputable medical equipment retailer.
Our mission is to improve the daily life of patients who need home health care. Comfort and increased mobility are within reach for anyone who needs it with our option to rent instead of purchasing equipment. China trade credit
Do you run or plan to start importing from China but do not know whether your Chinese business partner is a legally registered company? This is a common problem when doing business with Chinese companies, especially when you do it through the Internet and use B2B portals like Alibaba.com. The question seems peculiar, but still not enough people ask themselves about it. Surely it would possibly avoid a lot of scams if the importer had access to this apparently trivial information about a supplier from China.
So how can you check if a Chinese company exists? Or how can you know about china trade credit?
It is worth to be sure that the company has a legal registration in China.
Entrepreneurs frequently ask for the company’s references, certificates, or financial statements, and at the beginning, it is good to start by checking if you are dealing with a legally registered company or with a cheater. The problem is that the importer believes that if a company has a website or an account on a B2B website, then certainly it exists and runs a legal business. Unfortunately, scammers frequently create invented names to give themselves credibility. It works. If you see that, on the website or in the e-mail signature, a name with the appendage “Co., Ltd.,” you assume that this Chinese company must be legally registered. This blind assumption can cost your company a lot of money. And unfortunately often you cannot do much about it.
The company was registered but the registration has expired.
Another common case is that the business license has expired. Sometimes it turns out that the company had a business license, but it was not renewed. Sometimes scammers use the license of another company that is no longer registered. You should not only check whether the company has a license but also whether it is valid. If not, then you should really reconsider whether you want to import from China using such a supplier. It is worth adding that the risk of fraud in this case increases drastically.
What can we do to protect our company from untrustworthy supplier?
First of all, ask our business partner to show a copy of the business license. With this document, you can check if it is valid and whether it actually belongs to the right company. Transferring other companies’ licenses does happen. You also must be sure that the document has not been fabricated in a graphics program (for example, in Photoshop). Every legally registered Chinese company has a business license, so do not believe in excuses (the most common are: the license is lost or the license is in a locked drawer and the person who has the keys is on vacation). In addition, for Chinese companies, the business license is their most important document.

Make Background check for Chinese company
Background check Chinese company via 'China Checkup'
Nowadays a new online service allows businesses to verify Chinese companies quickly and affordably. Creditreform(China) is one of the leading providers of credit and risk management support services and commercial information in China. It makes official registration checks on Chinese companies accessible to businesses around the world.
For many countries China is a very important import and export destination. Make china background check is an important step in making informed decisions and doing business safely in China. It can also help you to avoid becoming a part of China's booming fraud industry.
Matt Slater started his China business consulting company 2 years ago, and he is doing things differently to the rest. 'cnbizsearch' lets customers order Chinese company verifications online. The whole process takes place via a secure online payments system. The new service has already received a very positive feedback from the market.
"There needs to be an affordable and streamlined way to obtain this information, which more and more companies require. This is what we hope to provide through cnbizsearch."
Tips – How to avoid problems
Mr Slater also gave some recommendations for avoiding problems when doing business with Chinese companies:
1. Have a contract, and translate it into Chinese. The value of a clear contract isn't just to have something to fall back on if disputes arise. It also ensures that both parties are on the same page.
2. Make it very clear that you're serious about the relationship. Demonstrating commitment to the deal and its results from the start will serve to put off potential low-quality companies, and give high-quality companies the confidence to move forwards with you and your company. Make it clear from the beginning that you will be carrying out background checks, audits and quality inspections.
3. Take responsibility for quality. Don't make the mistake of assuming that the other party will 'fill in the gaps' or handle any oversights not fully specified. Assume that it's your responsibility to clearly and completely communicate your expectations.
4. Documents can be faked. Take the view that documentation you are shown is meaningless until you can independently verify it through background checks and confirmations with the issuing authority.
5. Also remember that you get what you pay for. Some people doing business with Chinese companies think that the usual relationship between cost and quality doesn't apply in China. This leads to deals going bad. China may be cheaper in general, but there is certainly a limit to this. Recognise that the other party also needs to make a fair profit; if you drive prices down too far, quality will inevitably be affected.

Fun With Segway!!
I've always thought Segways were really cool, and really wanted to play with one. I even begged to ride the one at the Macromedia offices on a few of my visits, but it was always in another building, or otherwise unavailable (I think they just didn't trust me with their expensive toy).
So, when Segway called me up and invited gskinner.com to design and build a mini-site for their brand new product line, I jumped at the chance. Work with a super cool, progressive client, building a site for an unreleased techno-gadget? Count me in.
As part of the project, they flew me in to New Hampshire to meet the team, and play with the new toys. There's a lot of really smart, personable folk at Segway, working on some really neat projects. Some of the work is targeted at consumers, like the newly announced i2 and x2 human transports and a lot of it is experimental, like Project Centaur and the Robotics Mobility Platform.
I had a really fun visit. The new product is awesome. In particular, the lean steering is incredibly intuitive, unlike the old handle-twist steering. The new machines also look a lot sleeker, have better security, and the wireless keyfob is pretty neat. I also got to ride the Centaur, which is basically a 4 wheeled, high-speed Segway – it's a little tricky to operate in it's current (experimental) state, but it's a really neat idea with a lot of potential – it's pretty sweet to be able to tear around in an ATV, then pop a wheelie to drive around balanced on two wheels. And people can buy cheap Segway online, it's convenience.
Segway's corporate culture was also really fun and creative. Every few weeks they have experimental Fridays (they had a good name for this, but I forget it), where the engineers run to the hardware store, buy some cheap parts, and whip something together in one day. I would have loved to have witnessed one of these, as they sound like a ton of fun. I've got to try to figure out how to squeeze out the time to do something like this in the office once a month with Flash. Teams of two or three building an experimental piece with the latest Flash features for a day.
Anyway, if you haven't already, head over to Segway.com and check out the new line.

Highly Personalised eCommerce snapping at the heels of traditional online stores
The June Business Essentials audio program features an interview of one of the Australian entrepreneurs responsible for the recently launched personalised online shoe store Shoes of Prey. After choosing a base style (flats, mid-heel, high-heel, sandal, ankle boot etc) the Shoes of Prey online shoe designer tool allows you to customise your shoe to the nth degree. You can choose from a wide range of colours and materials, add straps, bows and other add-ons, even customising the colour of the insole, and toe sole (yes they are different). You can interact with the look of your unique shoe as you customise it. The end result can be a truly unique pair of shoes, made exactly to your size requirements, or if you are spoiled for choices and can’t decide, the website shows you the designs other customers have created allowing you to select one of those instead (and then add your own personalisation).
This blog: Personalised Shopping Services: How a bunch of menswear retailers found the future of ecommerce describes seven different online mens clothes shopping which address the problem of men not liking shopping, but still wanting to look good and have new clothes. The retailers solve the problem in a variety of different ways, but personalisation is key – understanding the man’s size, shape, style preferences, budget, and then delivering to those preferences on a regular basis.
All of these examples make it clear that the next phase of ecommerce is here, and snapping at the heels of the “traditional” online stores. This phase of ecommerce takes personalisation to the next level. It’s not about personalising the person’s name in the emails you send and sending a birthday card & discount a few weeks before your customer’s birthday, it’s about combining the power of technology with personal service in order to provide exactly what each customer wants and needs.
I know where I will be ordering my next pair of shoes … it might even be worth a trip to Sydney to try on the various sizes and base shoe styles in the Shoes of Prey range.
The following points are clear from the stories of the abovementioned online stores:
The existing marketplace vendors believed that personlisation of their products was too hard
There certainly were lots of difficulties to overcome and significant effort required in order to support a personalised service – this lead some retailers taking on the manufacturing themselves
The more highly personalised model has delivered rapid growth of market share for the entrepreneurs who took on and solved the challenges
Customers receiving a highly personal service are likely to spend more, spend more often, and have greater loyalty to the store
I’ve been banging on about richer personalisation, particularly as it relates to email marketing, since the launch of eNudge in 2006. Marketers have been talking about marketing to an audience of one for about the same length of time.
Now that the greater personalisation is being experienced by consumers via solutions like those described above, all businesses need to think about how they can provide a more personalised service, creating customers who don’t want to go anywhere else. If you are already providing a personalised product through your online store, you still need to think about how you can take that up a notch … for example, think about the monthly service provided by one of the male clothing store vendors, sending a regular package to their customers to rent, buy or send back. It’s proactive, not reactive, but isn’t just sending the same things to everyone – the service is personalised based on in depth knowledge of each customer.
Perhaps you would like help to take your ecommerce store to a higher level of personalisation, or perhaps take your offline solution onto the internet providing a highly customised experience? I believe there are similar opportunities for B2B solutions and professional services. We need to stop thinking “it’s too hard” and start working out ways it can be done utilising a combination of technology and customer service.

Document Legalization: Jurisdictional Issues
Three Key Questions to Ask Before Getting Started on a Legalization Project
Where is the document from?
Where will the document be used?
What type of document is it?
The answers to these questions can have a significant impact on how to proceed. Below are a few examples of how to approach a legalization project based on whether the originating and destination countries have signed onto the Hague Convention on Abolishing the Requirement of Legalization for Foreign Public Documents.
Example 1: You need to use documents from Japan (Hague party country) in the U.S. (Hague party country) and in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) (non-Hague party country). What you need: Japanese apostille for U.S. and Japanese authentication with UAE legalization for UAE.
Example 2: You need to use documents from China (non-Hague party country) in the U.S. (Hague party country) and in Brazil (non-Hague party country). What you need: Chinese authentication with legalization at U.S. and Brazilian embassy/consulate inChina.
The type of document, in certain circumstances, can be very important. Sometimes documents such as passports, educational or personal documents must be sent to one consular office, while commercial documents must be sent to another. Certain consular offices may refuse to legalize certain document types altogether, but their sister offices may accept them. Different types of documents may also require different procedures (such as Algeria only requiring translations for a Power of Attorney) or different fees (such as a fee of $30 for Good Standings, and a fee of $600 for most other corporate documents at the Embassy of the United Arab Emirates). And for many Arab countries, commercial invoices require an additional step of certification by the National U.S.-Arab Chamber of Commerce.
Procedures Can Vary Greatly Between Consular Offices for Same Country
Sometimes, the regions covered by different consular offices for a particular country overlap. In these situations, it is usually best to determine if there will be a benefit in working with one office over another. For example, when legalizing a document, some consular offices require only that a document be notarized due to the fact that the notary is registered within a specific territory. Conversely, sometimes it is necessary to have a document notarized, certified by a county clerk, authenticated by a Secretary of State, authenticated by the U.S. Department of State and even certified by a trade group before it can be legalized by the consulate. In some cases, going to one consular office versus another can make a big difference in terms of turnaround time, level of complexity and the cost associated with these projects.
Getting Accurate Information Can Be a Challenge
Most embassies/consulates post their jurisdictional policies and procedures online. The information on these websites, however, is often out of date and inaccurate. In some cases, the websites are not even in English. We have even seen one example of an embassy website containing a scam because it was set up to be editable by the general public, like a “wiki” site, but postings have clearly not been monitored.
There are also books published on the subject of document legalization/authentication, but due to frequent changes in policies and procedures, these are often outdated, even with annual publishing. (It is not unusual for embassies in Washington, D.C., for example, to change their rules on jurisdictional policy more than once a year.)
The bottom line is that if you are going to handle any legalization project, answer the three questions listed above and then start digging. Realize that the rules and procedures change all the time so you can’t assume something will be handled the same exact way as in the past. By doing your “homework” or working with a service company that is experienced in document legalization, you can help to minimize or eliminate delays and frustration.

Reducing your greenhouse gas emissions and carbon footprint
If you've made the decision to help promote a cleaner, greener footprint by reducing your carbon footprint, chances are you might be wondering exactly how to be eco-friendly and which steps you can take to get started. Here are three different things that you can do to personally reduce greenhouse gas emissions here in Canada.
Use Less Energy at Home
The first step to take when figuring out how to reduce your carbon footprint is as simple as the flick of a switch –literally. It may sound like something you would teach a child, but simply turning off the lights in a room when they aren't needed is very important. In addition to that, try unplugging your electronics when they aren't in use. Believe it or not, some experts suggest that unplugging unused TVs, printers, phone chargers and other electronics when they aren't in use can save up to 10% or more on your monthly utility bill. That also translates to a reduction in greenhouse emissions.
In the market for new home appliances? Be sure to select models with superior energy efficiency. The technology behind many appliances, such as refrigerators has allowed for incredible improvements in efficiency. Thanks to green technologies, a refrigerator made today is 40% more efficient than one made only ten years ago.
Eat for Efficiency
You may have heard all about the growing movement toward eating more locally grown or raised food. This is a great way to preserve the livelihoods of local farmers and to enjoy fresher, tastier foods. But did you know that eating locally helps to reduce your carbon footprint?
It's estimated that on average, food travels between 2,400 km to 3,200 km from its point of origin to the consumer. This distance results in an incredibly large footprint. However, if you choose to eat locally from farmers' markets or by joining a CSA (community supported agriculture) system you can help reduce the need for shipping and extraneous packaging.
Ride a Scooteretti Scooter Electric or Bike!
Making a change in your mode of transit is an excellent way to do your part in the reduction of greenhouse gas. When you switch from driving a car to an electric scooter or bike you can save money on insurance, licensing and best of all, you'll be able to reduce your carbon footprint in a significant (and stylish) way.
Electric bikes and scooter are now accepted on most roads in Ontario. They can be ridden at a maximum speed of 32 kilometers per hour, following Transit Canada's regulations for ebikes.
Scooteretti ebikes and scooters are durable, sleek and fun to ride. They're the perfect mode of eco-friendly transportation, whether you live in the heart of the city or in the suburbs.

Giants stars ditch cars for scooters
It started when former closer Brian Wilson mentioned that he liked scooters to team chef Joe Day, who happened to build them as a hobby. Before long, Wilson, Tim Lincecum, Hunter Pence, Sergio Romo, and Brandon Belt were cruising to the ballpark from their nearby downtown homes on their own heavily modified two-wheel electric rides.
The project really kicked into gear after the 2010 World Series. With some free time on his hands during the offseason, Day started pushing his scooter-making skills to the next level at a shop called Rustworks in San Carlos.
A chef by trade, Day, 28, works well with his hands and can offer about as many modifications to his custom scooters as he does ingredients in his cuisine.
"He's just a solid asset to an organization that is caring and affectionate to everybody," Romo said of Day.
Romo's scooter has a custom orange paint job, a turbo button, three-inch speakers that are mounted to a custom plate featuring his number, 54; an iPod dock to crank out the tunes and his name is painted on the baseboard.
"Mine is up there, but I think Timmy's might take the cake a little bit," Romo said.
Lincecum's scooter has all the features of Romo's ride and a special carbon fiber trim.
During Giants telecasts you'll often see shots of Pence cruising around town on his 2 wheel electric scooter. While he gets most of the airtime, his ride is a bit less flashy.
"There are some other guys with some very expensive scooters compared to mine," Pence said. "I have a very low-cost scooter."
Mindful that former Warriors guard Monta Ellis severely injured his left ankle on a moped shortly after signing a six-year, $66 million contract, all of the scooters made by Chef Day include extra large brakes, as well as engines that don't go any faster than 25 mph for added safety. There hasn't been an incident with any of the Giants players.
Day made two scooters for Pence, two more for Belt, and is currently making two for Madison Bumgarner, who is soon to join the scooter-riding ranks. Having a second scooter is key because these guys don't just hum down the Embarcadero to the ballpark, they also take joy rides alongside their significant others. Day says the average cost of the modified scooters is $2,000.
"I found out from Pence, Lincecum and Romo because they all had one," Belt said. "I talked to them about it and they said that they had a blast on them. I thought it might be something cool, since I live in the city this year, that me and my wife could have and drive around on."
Belt's scooter features a larger motor -- because he says he is a "bigger dude" -- with special shocks. While his scooter is orange, his wife Haylee's scooter is powder blue.
Chef Day did some special paintwork on Belt's scooter and they added some decals with his nickname 'baby giraffe' and jersey number for a personalized touch.
Day, a graduate of the California Culinary Academy, has been the team chef for the Giants since 2009. Every day he does his own grocery shopping, meal planning, and cooks up to three meals for about 50 people -- including Giants players, coaches, and clubhouse staff members.
"Every day he has grass-fed beef and kale salad for me ready to go for lunch," Pence said. "He's awesome."
Day is able to find time to work on his side projects when the team is on the road or during the baseball offseason.
His fine cuisine and scooters are currently only available to people inside the Giants organization, but he is willing to branch out. Day recently started a Twitter account: @RocketPed. He says he will make his scooters available to everybody if the interest level is there.

Verify and evaluate suppliers in China!
In an earlier video, we talked about how to narrow down a list of potential suppliers to a select group of highly qualified candidates.
Now go ahead and contact this short list. This starts the RFQ (request for quotation) phase. The feedback from this initial contact should allow you to further narrow down the list to the top 2 or 3 based on pricing and non-price attributes.
The next step is to validate if the suppliers are legit. In my opinion there are two essential types of verification.
Type One is the Factory Audit. This is to verify that the supplier has a quality control system in place and they have the production experience to supply you with the goods they say they can make for you.
Type Two is an Operational Audit or Due Diligence. This is to confirm that the supplier has a good reputation and is financially strong enough to stay in business long enough to complete your order. In other words, they are not likely to disappear with your initial payment.
There are professional service providers available who conduct these types of verification at very reasonable prices. I highly recommend you engage professional support if you don't have the skill set in-house to audit factories in China on your own. Contact me and I would be happy to recommend the 3rd parties I use for verification. But for your reference, here are some other tools you can use on your own or in conjunction with those 3rd parties.
It doesn't cost you anything to ask for references. If a supplier can't give you a few happy clients to visit with…this is a big red flag.
Confirm that you have the right to visit the production line and check on your order. If they come up with a bunch of excuses why you can't visit, it either means they don't have the ability to produce your product and are scared that you won't like what you see if you visit or it could be as simple as that they are a trading company and worried you will cut them out of the supply chain once you realize they provide little value. Speaking of trading companies, sometimes, especially if your order is small, it makes sense to use them, but I hate trading companies that say they are the factory when really they are just brokers.
Ask to see the suppliers Quality Control Manual. If they don't have an ISO compliant, written quality management system…run away. If you want to see what a Product Quality Manual looks like, you can check out china company verification at the link below:http://www.cnbizsearch.com/search/cc/
Having verified that your suppliers are legit, the next step, and our next video, deals with negotiating the price and then moving into production. On that note, as always, I sign off-wishing you successful sourcing in China! And if you found the information in this video useful, consider returning the favor: subscribe to my YouTube channel, hit the "like it" button and post some comments. The benefits of the electric scooter for adults
As an adult, an electric scooter for adults might not appeal to you at first glance, mainly because you associate scooters with a time in your life when you were carefree and life was a big adventure that was playful and fun all the time. However, you should note that a scooter calibrated for an adult may very well be the best thing since sliced bread for you, especially if you are working in a big city that is always teeming with traffic and heavily crowded places. The following are some of the benefits that should convince you to buy an adult electric scooter :
Convenience in making your daily commute
One of the biggest advantages that the electric scooter is going to give you is the advantage of arriving at your work place in style, without being sweaty or angry, as most of your work colleagues are probably going to be. Cycling to work is bound to make you sweaty and all heated up, and this might mess up your productivity, especially in the morning. If you decide to drive to work, you will have to deal with the prospect of getting embroiled in a nasty morning traffic jam. You will probably come out of the traffic jam very angry and frustrated; a mood that does not bode well for those who are most productive in the morning.
The chance to be eco friendly
By using an electric scooter instead of any other fuel driven machine, you will be able to get the convenience of using a machine to ease your work while not contributing to the pollution of the atmosphere. In other words, you will be getting what you wanted while reducing your carbon footprint, thus effectively killing two birds with one stone.
Cost effectiveness
The fact that this electric scooter does not use fuel means that you will be able to cut back on a lot of money that would have gone towards buying fuel for driving your car or for bus fare if you decide to use public transport. This is money that can then be funneled into other purposes. Guess what? This electric scooter for adults is available on wheelster.com, the most reputable online shop to get cheap electric unicycles.

Electric Scooter Buying Guide
They aren't just speed fixes or ways to get around for teens or young adults, electric scooters are real transportation solutions for those who don't need a large vehicle just to do their daily errands or to get from A to B. Buying your first electric scooter can be an intimidating experience if you've never owned anything on two wheels before. Consider these tips before you get started on your search for purchasing your first electric scooter.
Popular Electric Scooters
First thing you should ask yourself is who will be potentially riding your electric scooter. If it's just yourself, then the rest of the decision-making will be easy. If you expect other passengers to ride it regularly, consider what type of build you want to have for your electric scooter. Lighter, easier to handle scooters will be made largely of plastic, but they will also be more susceptible to damage from accidental drops or minor accidents. Maybe you can consider about china electric scooter, it's nice for adults.
The build quality of your scooter is very important, as needing to take your scooter in for repairs can cost you a lot of money at specialized scooter repair shops. If you intend on buying a scooter for your teenager, you should be looking at electric scooters made specifically for kids, rather than beginner-level scooters at scooter shops.
Electric Scooter upkeep
To expand on the last point about buying scooters for kids and adults: electric scooters that are found in places like Toys'R'Us are often much easier to maintain and are made for casual usage, while regular full-size scooters require more attentiveness and responsibility.
The batteries that come with kid's scooters are not as strong and don't hold a charge as well, made for a few hours of usage and needing at least twice as long to charge them. Also, most toy scooters have built-in batteries that may not be swapped or upgraded, while adult scooters allow for more freedom, depending on the manufacturer.
Another way to also research the longevity of an electric scooter is by confirming if it has genuine chrome plating to prevent rust and increase durability on its most vulnerable areas. Scooters tend to fall down unexpectedly, whether you're careful or not, having that extra layer of protection helps.
If you have chosen a full-sized electric scooter, learn as much as possible about what you can do to maintain the engine, any moving parts, and especially the braking system. You'll probably have change the brake pads a lot less often than a car, but you never want to have your brakes fail on a vehicle that leaves you so exposed.

Practical guide on how to verify chinese company?
Thanks to ecommerce, companies in US are able to sell products/service to China, a country you have not yet visited, you don’t speak the language, you are not aware if the legal systems are similar, you don’t know and don’t have the resource to know if the counterpart Chinese companies are real.
So we face a question: How can I check Chinese company? How to check the legitimacy of your Chinese buyers/partners? Are they a real company.
Some facts:
China don’t have a organization like BBB(Better Business Bureau) in US, where you could check the legitimacy and background of a Chinese company.
Chinese administration of industry and commerce is the governing body that in charge of company registration. However, they don’t have a nationwide website or database system that open to public to inquiry the authentication of Chinese companies.
Sourcing China blog recently published an excellent article, sharing how to verify Chinese company without visiting their premise. Here are some tips on their blog, just for chinese authentication:

Only legally incorporated companies can have business bank account. If the Chinese company insist you to pay their personal account only, be cautious.
2) Visit local AIC websites
Even though the national AIC don’t have a nationwide system allow you to check the legitimacy of Chinese company. However, some(not a lot) local AIC do allow you to use their websites to check the legitimacy of Chinese company.

Reports in China: Progress or Greenwashing?
"Corporate Social Responsibility" Reports in China: Progress or Greenwashing?
Over the past decade, an increasing number of Chinese companies have begun to produce corporate social responsibility (CSR) reports. Whether that’s led to more sustainable business practices is an open question.
In 2006, State Grid was the only company in China to file a CSR report. In 2012, 1,722 Chinese companies filed CSR reports, according to a study by Syntao, a sustainability consultant. Indeed, almost a quarter of large state-owned enterprises in China filed CSR reports last year.
In theory, the purpose of CSR reports is to share information about a business’s social and environmental impact with the public. Ideally, the publication of such china credit report leads to enhanced awareness, better monitoring practices, and action to curb detrimental occurrences.
Yet while some Chinese companies have received international recognition for enhanced CSR reporting, it’s not clear the trend has translated broadly into more socially and environmentally sound policies. As Chris Marquis, an associate professor at Harvard Business School, and Yang Chen, an associate professor at Shanghai Maritime University, wrote on Dec. 5 in the online magazine Chinadialogue, “some of the same companies that were lauded for their reporting work were not necessarily following through with more responsible actions in the rest of their enterprises.”
Marquis and Yang pointed to several examples, including Baogang Group, a steel company in Inner Mongolia. The company “claims to have invested tens of millions of dollars a year in environmental protection and waste processing, and has also been recognised for its CSR and sustainability activities,” the researchers write. However, earlier this year pollution from Baogang’s facilities near the village of Dalahai was linked to “unusually high rates of cancer, along with high rates of osteoporosis and skin and respiratory diseases, and the radiation levels are ten times higher than in the surrounding countryside.” Obviously, not a sign of its commitment to principle.
At the very least, some Chinese authorities appear to have embraced the concept of corporate responsibility. In November, the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences released a blue book, or official report, on the state of CSR in China, which recommended improved reporting guidelines. Currently, the Shenzhen Stock Exchange offers training on data collection and corporate reporting methods. That makes smart business sense, as unsustainable practices may prove a future liability to growth. Even smog-choked China is looking for ways to clean up.

China credit rating
Just as consumers check to make sure a business is legitimate before they buy, you likely do the same before your business has dealings with someone new. Whether you're looking to buy from a supplier, donate to a non-profit organization, or collaborate with another business on a project, you want to make sure you aren't taking unnecessary risks.
If you're dealing with a federally incorporated business, your search should be straightforward as those businesses are listed in Corporations Canada online database. Generally, all businesses — even federally incorporated ones — have to register in the province or territory in which they do business. This includes corporations, partnerships, and sole proprietorships (except those operating under a person's name). You may wish to seek information from the provincial registrars, some of which are available online, particularly when dealing with smaller businesses.
There are several ways you can investigate a business:
Look it up. Do an Internet search using whatever information you have (name, address, phone number) and visit or call to see if it is what it claims to be.
Put the word out on social media and look for online reviews. If the business has a presence there, someone will likely be talking about it or to its representatives.
Ask for references from suppliers or clients (this option may not work for a very new business with few or no previous clients).
Check with industry or trade organizations in your province or territory.
Check with the Better Business Bureau; it provides reports on businesses and charities in both China and the United States.
Search the china credit rating database; it's a voluntary registry, but many small Canadian businesses are listed.
Once you've verified to your own satisfaction that a business exists, it is wise to proceed with caution. If you decide to do business with someone you haven't dealt with before, you may want to start with a smaller, less risky transaction (if possible) to see how things go, until you feel comfortable that this is a business you can trust. This will also allow you to see how the business operates in terms of deadlines and customer service. If you are not satisfied, or something still doesn't seem right, you may decide not to proceed.
Verifying information is important to protecting your business. Find out about other ways to keep your business secure and to minimize risk.
